Napo Runa Volunteer
In 2005, the descendants of our ancestral community collectively formed the idea to initiate a volunteer and eco-tourism project. With the strength of will of each one of the members, we worked together to seek new ideas and perspectives, and to build a base of collective management. We see that we cannot maintain our traditional life intact in the rainforest, but we seek to prevent the abandonment of our ancient values and to find a healthy counterbalance to the modern world that advances so rapidly. For these reasons we decided to reach out, open our home up to others, and implement the necessary infrastructure to create opportunities for better jobs, health-care, and education. We need to generate productive strategies that will create investments for our future generations, and we believe that with a community-run volunteer and eco-tourism program, managed by ourselves in a holistic, sustainable, and intellectual manner, we can embark on this process. This is our struggle and these are our goals that you can help us work towards.
